Solidly built and fit very well onto my Can Am Maverick Sport. It looks great and I can’t wait to get on the trails with it! The rack creates a large enclosed ‘cage’ for a dog or cargo. The instructions used a lot of excellent pictures. The only installation problem I had was that the shoulder bolts on the tailgate would not fit through the holes on the tailgate. I had to drill out those holes a little bit.

A couple more notes to add regarding the Expedition Rack. I went all-in with the Rotopax and spare tire mount. The “It Fits” mounts are rock solid! The spare tire mount is adjustable to different tire sizes and works well. Even with the weight of a spare tire on the Expedition Rack door, the door opens easily and stays open because of the gas strut. The upper rack can hold items that are about 10 inches tall without adding to the overall height of the rig. So far, I’m very pleased with this purchase.

Nice Looking, but not very sturdy. I have spent almost another grand on stuff that has fallen off or broke off. First the fuel carrier handle came loose and lost the tank and handle. I called and they informed me they wont sell just the plate and screw handle so I had to order the entire mount and a new tank. Then the pin that holds the gate shut came out. Fortunately they did not make me order a entirely new rack. I had to red loctite that in so it would quit backing out. This past weekend now the hardware they supplied for the spare tire rack broke and I lost my spare off of the back. Now they say they are 8-10 weeks lead time. I have less than 600 miles on my new side by and have had nothing but problems with this system. Unfortunately when I get a new side by, I probably wont be looking at RBO unless they address some of these issues.

Just installed a RBO 5160 rack. Very nicely built and install was perfect. It’s built like a brick shit house.

I love the concept of this storage rack, but it lacks the fine details of a high end system costing over a thousand bucks! I’ve had my Expedition Rack now since March of 22 (over 2 yrs) and have had to make a couple significant tweaks to the system in order to get it exactly what I was expecting in the first place.
#1. The hinge design for the gate is weak and squeaky. The details on the web listing for this item now says do not mount anything over 40lbs on the rear gate. I have a 32″ spare tire on a rim that I’ve had mounted since day one, but over time it has definitely bent the hinge making it difficult to open and close the gate without significant force to release the stress off the locking mechanism. I ended up cutting off the original hinges and replaced with a heavy duty “gate hinge” ($15 on Amazon) and it completely supports the additional weight of my large spare.
#2. The rack constantly squeaks and creaks as you ride through rough terrain. I found that the upper shelf / deck was attached to the sides with simple bolts and no washers in between the metal parts. I found some rubber washers to install between the upper shelf and side supports…squeaking gone!
I feel by paying the asking amount for this rack system you’d expect high end product and no issues. It didn’t take a whole lot for me to modify this unit and make it “perfect” (IMO), but it should have come this way to begin with.
I’ve emailed their tech support and sales team about my concerns and have received zero response. I do like my expedition rack system especially after my mods, but I get lots of people asking about it when we are out on rides and I let them know if you are not comfortable making some tweaks to a brand new system, then it’s for you. If not…perhaps find something different.
